Access to clean water is not only necessary, it is a fundamental right that transforms lives. Connections to Water and Basic Sanitation was founded with the vision to ensure that the most vulnerable communities can have access to this vital resource, while improving their health conditions and promote a healthier environment, and sustainable.

This project not only seeks to supply drinking water to the population, but also integrates micro-projects of basic sanitation, addressing a comprehensive approach to water management and community well-being. Among the initiatives implemented include:

  • Control of gray water: Pioneer system in the region
  • Sand filters and dry toilets: Solutions to ecological sanitation
  • Ecological stoves: Reduction in the consumption of firewood
  • Reforestation: Watershed protection
  • Environmental education: Training to communities

Beneficiary Communities

With this initiative, it will directly benefit three communities: The Capitol, The Lucinda and Oblivion, impacting more than 1,000 people you will soon be able to enjoy a decent access to clean water.

Grey Water system

One of the most important milestones of the project has been the implementation of a grey water system in the community El Pital, which has already connected to 50 families. This system, a pioneer in all the Atlántida department, and in the rural area of Honduras, represents an innovative model that not only optimizes the use of water, but also significantly reduces the pollution Rio Cangrejal- thus protecting this vital ecosystem for the region.

Stove Ecological

It has launched a pilot project stove ecologicalbenefiting 6 families. This initiative seeks to reduce the consumption of firewood, improve the respiratory health of the families and to contribute to the conservation of the environment.

Protection of the Micro -

Another key accomplishment has been the obtaining of a declaration of protection for the micro -, a fundamental step to ensure the sustainability of the water resource in the long term.

Community Leadership

The community leadership it is the pillar of this initiative. The Local board of water it is responsible for managing, administering, and monitoring the project, ensuring that it is sustainable and responsive to the real needs of the population. Their commitment and organization have allowed the legal formalization of the project, providing greater strength and institutional support.

Next Important Milestone

With the eyes set in the future, it is expected that in August 2025 to complete the construction of a new drinking water system, marking a before and an after in the quality of life of these communities.
