More than a program, it is a movement that transforms communities. Its aim is to strengthen the skills of reading and writing, cultivate critical consciousness and social-environmental, promote leadership, and to promote gender equity.
Currently impactamos 9 communities on a weekly basis, with activities such as:
- Reading and writing: 142 children (0-9 years)
- Club Readers: 92 children (10-14 years old)
- Youth Club: 62 young people (15-18 years)
- Adult literacy: 130 people
In every community there is a volunteer mentor and a Club Friends (5 youth), who lead the activities with commitment and passion. With all of the actions we touch the lives of almost 2,000 people.
Connections Literacy it is more than a program; it is a bridge to a future where the words become tools of change, where the reading awakened minds, and where learning transcends generations.
This initiative aims to strengthen the skills of reading and writing, to cultivate a critical awareness and social-environmental, boost the local leadership and promote gender equality and equity, through the wonderful habit of reading.
Today, that dream comes to life 9 communities, where each week the magic of the words reached hundreds of people. The programme covers various areas of learning:
- Reading and writing: benefits of 142 children aged 0 to 9 years
- Club Readers: inspires 92 children aged 10 to 14 years
- Youth Club: it motivates 62 people aged 15 to 18 years
- Adult literacy: where 130 people discover that it is never too late to learn
Each community has a promoter of reading or volunteer mentor, who with a passion, and commitment in leading the efforts, receiving a small stipend as an incentive. In addition, a Club Friends comprised of 5 young people in each community offers their time and effort, working closely with mentors to make the reading experience a vibrant and transformative.
By adding up all the activities, we touch the lives of almost 2,000 people, sowing the seeds of hope and knowledge in every story shared.
The initiative also has a Interim library, a haven of knowledge where a librarian, next to 10 young volunteers between the ages of 13 and 17 years, he leads the programming. On a weekly basis, this space welcomes 100 peopleamong children, young people and adults, who are in the books a universe of possibilities.
Like a spark of creativity and emotion, the character of Bibliobandido runs through the communities every two months, unleashing a wave of enthusiasm and curiosity. With their mysterious essence and fun, this unique thief of stories makes the reading experience fun and memorable. More than a character, is a mobile library unique in the region, reaching almost 400 people a year. This effort is led by 15 young between 13 and 19 years, who with enthusiasm and commitment to facilitate the programming and keep alive the essence of Bibliobandido.
The impact of Connections Literacy would not be possible without the support of strategic partners such as Global Fund for Children, Foundation Strachan, LitWorld, SEDUC, CMDGN, UDIMUF, Mayor of La Ceiba, Lift up and many other organizations that believe in the transformative power of education and reading.
In 2021this work was recognized by the appointment of "Innovative Organization" by LitWorld, thanks to our methodology "U.s. Home", a response, resilient and creative the face of the challenges of the pandemic. This recognition is a testimony to the impact of our work and an impetus to continue building a world where every person has the opportunity to read, dream and lead in their own way.
